How can I avoid nicks or cuts when shaving?

Published on 20 March 2024
A Philips electric shaver is designed to be kind to your skin but, as with any shaving method, cuts or abrasions can happen from time to time. This risk can be minimized by adapting your shaving technique and ensuring your shaver is assembled correctly.

Note that a Philips electric shaver is designed to shave the face only and should not be used on genitals or other body parts.

Start by checking that the metal caps on the shaving heads of your shaver are correctly attached and undamaged. Please refer to the user manual for your product for details on how to assemble and disassemble the shaving heads, and replace any damaged parts immediately.

When it comes to technique, Philips recommends dry shaving (without gel or foam) on clean, dry skin. Apply only gentle pressure on your skin with your shaver. This allows the shaving heads to glide smoothly across your skin without sliding too quickly.

Areas of wrinkled or folded skin are more likely to be caught by your shaver, regardless of the method or device used. Puffing out your cheeks when shaving, while it may look slightly odd, helps to smooth out lines on those areas of your face, providing a smooth surface for your shaver to glide across.
